Research Focus:
The main interest of our laboratory is the study of infectious and neoplastic diseases involving the immune system. The basic science portion of our laboratory focuses on malaria research using mouse models of this disease.
The clinical portion of our laboratory is dedicated to providing diagnostic services for cases of suspected lymphoma and leukemia in canine and feline patients. We also use the service to support the development of new diagnostic tests, such as the identification of prognostic markers in canine T cell leukemia using gene expression profiling. Our extensive dataset of phenotypically characterized lymphomas and leukemias has been useful for identifying prognostic factors, and provides epidemiological data on different subtypes of lymphoma and leukemia. Such data has been used to identify breed predisposition to different subcategories of hematologic neoplasia, which can eventually lead to the discovery of genes involved in the development of lymphoid neoplasia.
